virtualized vSphere 4 infrastructure (running in VMware Workstation 7 on native OS Windows 7 64-bit). Everything worked nicely until I wanted to add an Nexus1000v to the infrastructure (to a virtualized ESX4).</p>\n<p>I can\'t add the Nexus 1000v OVF to the ESX. Error is \"Host CPU is incompatible with the virtual machine\'s requirements at CPUID level 0x80000001 register \'edx\'. ... Longmode; required when a virtual machine is configured for a 64-bit guest OS. Note that for system with Intel CPUs, enabling VT in the BIOS is requiredfor longmode support.</p>\n<p>I assumed that this is due the 64-bit OS of the Nexus appliance, so I added an Windows 7 64-bit and got the exact same error message.</p>\n<p>I already setted the ESX settings Processor preferred mode to \"Intel VT-x or AMD-v\", \"Automatic\" and \"Intel VT-x/EPT or AMD-V/RVI\", but nothing helped.</p>\n<p>The physical hardware is a Dell Latitude D830 with Intel Core2 DUO CPU with 8 GB memory. I\'m able to run the Nexus in VMware Workstation, but as said, not able to run it in the virtualized ESX.</p>\n<p>Is anybody able to run an 64-bit machine in an virutalized ESX host? Mount ESXi Data Disk in Windows/Linux

We are trying to utilize an old Dell PE1750 server as an ESXi host to replace an ailing fileserver from the early 90s. We have 3 SCSI disks on an LSI board installed. Disk0 for the ESXi host/guest OS installs, Disk1 is for fileserver data and Disk2 is a mirrored backup for Disk1. Our only VM is Windows2003 (it is doing the mirroring for the 2 disks).

This system is a temporary solution while we redesign our server environment, so we don't have a full set of hardware to replace this system if it fails. In the event of a server hardware failure or a Disk0 failure, we would like to be able to remove the data disks 1 and 2 from the system, mount them in another non-ESXi system and move the fileserver data to a new system.

Is this possible?

We have been experimenting with removing Disk1 and hooking it up to a SCSI Windows box and using the DiskMount utility offered with VMware Workstation, but have not been able to actually mount the drive and get any data off of it. Windows Disk Management sees the drive and can give it a drive letter, but when we run the vmware-mount command and give it the file path to the vmdk from the service console on ESXi, we get an error that the path can't be found.

We thought maybe a Linux system can do this with the Diskmount utility. Any suggestions?
